Poster country flags and privacy
by Simon inthe new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).
before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.
first, the reason i think it should be shown:.

Hi! Long time lurker finally signing up!
by LosingMyReligion inok, so the time has finally come to register an account on this site.
not that i think i have much to contribute to the discussions here, but more out of a desire to show that yet another person has learned ttatt.
i am a fader, not discussing ttatt with anyone as i know the inevitable outcome it would have.

Hi LMR, great to read your first post!
The fact that you came here for the occasional KM and weren't 'ensnared' by hideous venom spitting apostates, but were later driven back by the organisation's own twisted teachings fascinates me, as I did the same. It's not 'apostate lies' that WT fear us reading on the interwebs, it's well-researched facts and flawless reasoning!
Slowly acclimatising to life without a JW belief system is a humbling experience, you seem calm and collected about taking your time with new ideas, which is a super healthy attitude to have :)
All the best in your journey!

Thanks bohm, I was talking non-proxy using scammers, though if they see the site lists location by default surely they'd then use one anyway...hmmm -

Hovering is a royal pain on mobile, but thanks :)
So if I came across a member who showed a UK flag then checked their post history, each post would display a different flag? Or do I have to rely on my iffy memory to stop and think 'hold on, sparlock4eva was showing as USA last Tuesday!' ?

I have no issue displaying a flag but can understand those who do.
I don't get how it would help me identify spammers though....I'd rather see someone's join date at a glance rather than their country...

Science is right in its details, but wrong in its direction
by exWTslave inscience observes, studies and analyses the basic nature of all the components constituting the part of any experiment, follows the principle of cause and effect, and come out with equipments that would contribute to our comfort and save us lots of time and energyall of which are ultimately aimed at making life on this earth happier, longer and healthier, thus making this world a better place to live.. yet man day-by-day becomes more and more unhappy and discontented, and world is becoming bitter and bitter!
it means: though science is right in its details, it has gone wrong in its direction.
it failed to rightly judge and assess the true nature of its prime object (man) for whom it works.

You're confusing science with consumerism and culture, an entirely different subject.
Materialism as it relates to happiness levels has been studied by the social sciences in great depth, maybe check things out from that point of view...

Hi What Now, I have the same faded status as yourself and personally view the way that I was dropped like a hot potato as very telling of their true motivations. They have no reason to shun you or treat you that way, you certainly didn't deserve to be reacted to like that, even by WT rules, it just seems to be how modern JWs love to act.
As a stay at home mum have you looked into playgroups and support networks? It's a great way to make friends and you instantly have something in common! Even going to the local play park at the same time each day/week you'll get to know other families.
The current changes definitely appear to be keeping JWs busy, but doing what? Being loving and caring to others or blowing their own trumpet? All that glitters is not gold. It seems you're more frustrated at not 'moving on' socially than bitter, but chin up, it'll happen!
As for your son not behaving like those at the kh....nonsense. All young children express their frustrations at times, and no one should be making you doubt yourself as a parent.

new assembly experience... what do you reckon to this one?
by purrpurr inok so aparently there was this young girl who wanted to study with the jw's because she loved the bible so much.
she asked her fathers permission but he refused, after much nagging though he said she could have a study if she was prepared to have one of her fingers chopped off.
he thought the is would stop her but she was willing so he got a knife and cut off one of her fingers... a little while later she wanted to attend the meetings and he said no and again when nagged said she could attend meetings if she had another finger chopped off so she agreed and he chopped off a second finger.
